Pool update & Scam alert

Starting next Friday August 29th, there will be no guard on duty on Fridays going forward for the balance of the season.  Also, this is a reminder that smoking is not permitted at the pool, this includes e-cigarettes.

The Pierce County Sheriff’s Department Detectives would like to alert the public to a scam.

There is a company called “The Driveway Guys” , driving a small white pickup truck with the logo on the sides, who are targeting elderly/ disabled. They offer to perform driveway work and other misc. labor jobs. They agree on a price for services then attempt to trade for the victim’s possessions instead (leaf blowers, pressure washers, etc). In a few cases they have fled the area with the victim’s belongings after only partially completing the work.

Please dial 798.4722 and report information to police for follow-up questioning if you see this truck in your neighborhood.

Pond Area Update

woodlakepond

We have been working to try to clean up the pond islands and pond water.  We have successfully cleaned up the pond islands and are currently in the process of applying wood chips to keep down weeds and give it a nice uniform appearance. The wood chips are free and will tie in with the entrance area that was previously chipped.

Larry Ramos has graciously offered to volunteer his time and take on the pond area. He has been working very hard on cleaning it up and researching our pond water issues.  We are thankful for his willingness to volunteer and help out.  Unfortunately the Pond water is currently experiencing two algae blooms and it take a while to clear up.  Our 40 year old pond has several water issues including algae blooms, below surface weeds, lack of circulation, outdated electrical service and a very old and temperamental blacktop liner.  The Pond is a large body of water and is proving to be time consuming and difficult to find companies willing to come out and service our pond.  We have submitted water samples and had them tested to determine what we are dealing with.  We are currently in the process of attempting to obtain the correct product to use to remedy our situation.  Larry has spent numerous hours of personal time researching various water products, obtaining professional advice, available companies, locating vender’s and even attending informational classes on pond management and other options available to us.  Please know we are doing what we can, we are dealing with a very large time consuming old pond that has several issues.  We are on a limited budget and everyone’s time is at a premium.

HOA Dues

Hello everyone, quick update on HOA Dues:

Vote results – 38 yes / 19 no for late fee interest rate increase. Thank you to all who voted, it was the largest number we have seen.

Concerns – thank you for those who have come by our residence and voiced their concerns. We have shared your thoughts with the board and we will continue to work with the best intentions for our neighborhood in mind.

Dues increase – remember dues increase starting August ($50). Some neighbors have wondered why they did not get to vote on the dues increase. We remained within the CPI (consumer price index) which did not require a vote per our covenants. I also confirmed this with our legal advisor.

Pool is open!

Hello everyone!

Hope your garage sales went great.  Ours was awesome, finally all the stuff we don’t use found good homes! Just got word from the board that the Woodlake pool is now open!  Thanks to Eddie and the board the pool house has been upgraded and looks super nice now.  I also got word from Bonnie who lives next to the pond that we have 5 Canadian Geese goslings and 10 ducklings in our pond.  How cute!  Who’s ready for some summer fun!?

Free smoke detectors!

Hello everyone, please read below. It’s a message from Andee Lugo at West Pierce Fire & Rescue! Free smoke detectors!!

I am the Grant Coordinator of the Smoke Detector Program with West Pierce Fire and Rescue and a University Place resident.  I wanted to make sure you were aware of the great program we are offering for the residents that live in Lakewood and University Place.

Not only is the Fire Department offering free smoke detectors, we will install the new detectors for you, for FREE J and it’s as easy as calling to make an appointment.  The only smoke detectors that we cannot update or replace are the hardwired systems and the private alarm systems (the detectors that are connected to your security system).

Thank you~
Andee

Regarding door to door sales

Regarding door to door sales. I spoke with Chief Blair about the matter. Chief Blair has only authorized Edward Jones and Evergreen Tree Cutting for door to door sales. Any others should be brought to the attention of police. Each subject conducting sales must go through a background check, and if approved should have in their possession a permit from the city of University Place. I will advise if any other companies are approved by Chief Blair. ~ Mike Cooney HOA VP
